THE BREAKTHROUGH
The starting point for Body Innoventions’ cosmetic chemists was a ground-breaking 1998 study published in the June issue of the medical journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery entitled “An exploratory investigation of the morphology and biochemistry of cellulite.”1 The study was considered groundbreaking for two reasons: 1) it was the first study (believe it or not) to take a serious look at both the anatomical structure of cellulite as well as its physiologic function; and, 2) the results of the study exploded all the popular myths surrounding the causes of cellulite, concluding: cellulite is not caused by poor circulation, thigh fat is no different than regular body fat, and cellulite can’t be “cured” without diet and exercise.

Through advanced ultrasound examination, the doctors learned that while women had a generalized pattern of irregular and discontinuous connective tissue immediately below the skin, this same layer of connective tissue was generally smooth and continuous in men.
